Nearly 6th April: Your MTD Checklist for a Smooth New Tax Year
The new tax year is almost here, which makes it the perfect moment to get your Making Tax Digital setup in order. A few small steps now will save you a lot of hassle later.
Here’s what to sort before 6 April:
- Register for MTD with HMRC:
This is essential, and it isn’t automatic. If you’re unsure whether you’re already registered, we can check for you.
- Make sure you’re using MTD‑compatible software:
Now is the time to set up the software and make sure that it’s set up correctly for your business. If you need some guidance on the right software, give us a call and we’d be happy to chat about your options.
- Reconnect bank feeds:
They often expire at the start of a new period and its always worth checking in to make sure that the feed is still connected.
- Refresh your bookkeeping routine:
Making sure you’re all squared up weekly is ideal, monthly at a minimum.
- Check your VAT settings:
This is especially important if you’ve changed schemes or crossed thresholds.
- Review user access:
Everybody hates this job, but it is necessary. Now is the time to tidy up old logins and make sure the right people have the right permissions.
To make everything easier, we’ve put together a free, friendly MTD guide that walks you through the essentials step‑by‑step.
