Verifying Your Identity with Companies House

From 18 November 2025, anyone setting up, running, owning, or controlling a UK company must verify their identity with Companies House. This includes directors, people with significant control (PSCs), LLP members, company secretaries, and authorised agents (ACSPs). It’s all part of a wider effort to reduce fraud and boost transparency.

Verification is free and can be done online via GOV.UK One Login, at a participating Post Office, or through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider like your accountant or solicitor, though they may charge for the service. Once verified, you’ll receive a personal code which you must keep. You’ll need it for filings, appointments, and confirmation statements.

If you’re already in one of these roles, you’ll need to connect your verified identity to Companies House records. If you’re taking on a new role after 18 November, you’ll need to verify before you’re officially appointed.

Beware! Failing to verify could mean fines, disqualification, or being unable to file or register a company.

Keep your personal code safe and only share it with people you trust.
